    It's time for mindfulness

    Hello! My name is Jack Curley and I am looking forward to connecting with you over the next 4 weeks for the Mindfulness Classes during this month where our theme is PRESENCE.
     
    Together we’ll be exploring some simple mindfulness practices that have become invaluable personal and professional skills for me and I hope they will become tools for you also. 
     
    These simple practices, breathing and checking in with your body are where we’ll begin. You may wonder how much of a difference these practices could make in the crazy roller coaster ride of life right now? 
     
    For many years I was an engineer working on intense public projects, and like you, my life has had some bumps. Having mindfulness tools did not make all the challenges of my life go away but these practices have given me ways to navigate life with more ease, calm, and joy. 
     
    There is much about your life that you can make choices about.
    Mindfulness helps you recognize those choices and cultivate the ability
    to pay attention to your breath, your mind, and your life. 
     
    Join me this week as we begin the journey to experience the perks of mindfulness. I look forward to meeting you.

        A pair of old friends

        The ancient yogis were fascinated by the breath. They noticed that it’s the only body function that happens automatically, yet we also can consciously control it. 
         
        Your breath is a key.
         
        Not only does it reflect your state of mind, but it can shape your mind….because you can shape your breath! Think about it, can you recall a moment in your life when you felt surprised? Your breath changed.
         
        Remember this whenever you notice your mind feeling unsettled or scattered, bring your awareness to your breath.
         
        Start to take smooth, deep, steady breaths and notice in time how that brings your mind back to a steadier and more tranquil state. These old friends, breath, and mind, taking a peaceful stroll with one another.
         
        I'm looking forward to this week's Breath FIX, where you'll build the foundation for an intelligent breathing practice.
